Founding Institutions
& National Directors
Case Western Reserve University School of Law and Western Law are CUSLI's Founding Institutions.
The deans of each law faculty serve as the co-Presidents of CUSLI. Case Western Reserve University School of Law Dean Gary Simpson and University of Western Ontario Faculty of Law Acting Dean Ian Holloway presently serve as co-Presidents.
Each dean has appointed a full-time member of its faculty to serve as the National Director of CUSLI. Case Western Reserve University School of Law Professor Richard Gordon presently serves as the U.S. Director, and University of Western Ontario Faculty of Law Professor Chios Carmody presently serves as the Canadian Director.
The National Directors promote the development of Canada-U.S. based curricula and research opportunities at each law faculty; foster students and faculty exchange programs; serve as faculty advisors to the Canada-United States Law Journal and the Canada-United States Law Institute Student Committee; and serve as members of the Canada-United States Law Institute Executive Committee.
Advisory Board
The Canada-United States Law Institute Advisory Board is comprised of prominent government officials, industry leaders, legal practitioners, representatives of NGOs, and the media that assist in guiding CUSLI's programs. The Advisory Board meets at least once annually in plenary session to receive the budget, review CUSLI's past year and ongoing programs, and advise as to future CUSLI-sponsored programs. The Advisory Board further serves as a source of financial support for CUSLI.
